A 12-year-old schoolboy has been tortured inhumanely by a local shopkeeper in Shalikha upazila of Magura on theft allegations.
The victim, a sixth-grader at a local school in the upazila, is now undergoing treatment at Shalikha Upazila Health Complex, our Jhenaidah correspondent reports, quoting Md Bisharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station.
The incident took place at Chandara village under Talkhari union of the upazila last afternoon.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused grocery shopkeeper, Hasan, in this connection.
Fahmida Zaman Snigdha, a doctor at the emergency department of the health complex, said the injuries of the boy are serious.
“The boy has multiple injuries in his legs and body,” she added.
The victim’s father said his son went to a local mosque to offer jummah prayer yesterday.
“At that time, Hasan picked him up, took him inside his shop, tortured him by driving nails into his leg, and beat him up with hammers on theft allegations,” he said.
It is to be noted that Hasan’s grocery shop was looted recently.
The boy was forced to make a false confession in this regard, which was filmed, the victim’s uncle told The Daily Star.
On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the boy, and admitted him to a local hospital.
OC Bisharul Islam said police asked the victim’s family members to file a case in this connection.
“If they don’t file any complaint, police will file a case against the accused,” he added.
