Fraud, Juneway Drive

On Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m. a resident reported she was the victim of fraud. She received an unsolicited phone call from someone claiming to represent AT&T. The caller correctly stated what her current phone bill was, and stated the bill could be reduced by paying a one-time fee with Target Gift cards. The victim purchased a $400 gift card and called back to give them the card information. The caller said the card was no good, and she needed to purchase another one. They claimed the second card was no good because it was purchased from the wrong store. She purchased a third card which was good. The caller said he could refund the first two cards, but she would need to pay a $250 security fee with FedEx using another gift card. She purchased the gift card and called them back. At this time she realized she was being scammed. In total the victim lost $1,450. The police department  reminds residents to be very cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls, and no legitimate company would ever request payment in the form of a gift card.
