WEST AKRON: A woman with roommates at a Fried Street home reported she returned from being in the hospital Nov. 29 to learn her purse was missing.
Police were called to a Fried Street boarding house Nov. 30 after a boarder reported a man came there, threatened him and accused him of harassing his mother, who also lives there.
A school resource officer requested assistance at Buchtel CLC Nov. 30 after a student was stabbed. The 17-year-old victim was transported to a hospital for a non-life threatening injury after being stabbed during an altercation with two other students, who left before police arrived. Charges were pending completion of an investigation.
Police and EMS responded to a suspected drug overdose at a Peerless Avenue home Dec. 2.
Officers patrolling a Stoner Street and Winton Avenue area Dec. 3 attempted a traffic stop on a driver that pulled into a driveway on Winton Avenue, exited the vehicle and walked toward the home. Police confiscated a handgun from the man’s pocket, and he reportedly admitted he had another handgun in another pocket. Police determined he had a permit to carry a concealed weapon but he was wanted on a warrant by the Stow Police Department and they confiscated 8 grams of marijuana, two bullets and a spent round of ammunition from the vehicle. He was arrested for having weapons while under disability and possession of marijuana and taken to the Summit County Jail.
On Dec. 3, police patrolling East Avenue and Vernon Odom Boulevard stopped the driver of a vehicle with a license plate that had been reported stolen. The driver told officers someone gave him the license plate, but he was unable to identify that person. He was arrested for receiving stolen property and taken to the Summit County Jail on two warrants.
Police responded to a report of a vehicle at an intersection on Superior Avenue Dec. 3 and found a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle, with the engine running and a bottle of beer on the passenger seat. Officers pounded on the windows and the driver woke slightly and the car moved forward and struck the cruiser, which had been placed in front of the vehicle to keep it from moving. The driver opened his window but refused commands to exit the vehicle and was forcibly removed. A vehicle inventory revealed oxycodone, fentanyl and ecstasy in the car, and the driver was charged with DUI, obstruction of official business, driving under suspension, resisting arrest and three counts of drug possession, and taken to jail. The vehicle was towed.
Litchfield and Firestone CLCs were locked down Dec. 5 between 2 and 2:30 p.m. after a gun was located in a student’s bag at Litchfield.
BATH: Police stopped an erratic driver on North Cleveland-Massillon Road Nov. 24 and noticed an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The man was unable to complete a field sobriety test and refused a BAC test. He was arrested for DUI and his vehicle was towed.
Employees reported a man created a disturbance at a North Cleveland-Massillon Road gas station Nov. 25, and refused to leave. Police arrested him on a warrant for a parole violation and took him to Summit County Jail, where two bags of suspected narcotics were retrieved from his socks and sent to a lab for identification, with charges pending.
Officers investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the parking lot of a Medina Road hotel Nov. 26.
Police investigated a report by an employee of a Medina Road business who stated a caller claiming to be the store owner contacted her Nov. 26 at 1:22 a.m. and told her to close the business, take all the money from the cash register and make an emergency deposit into an account at a Bitcoin kiosk in Akron using her own debit card. She complied with the order and deposited more than $1,000 before learning the manager had not made the call.
The driver of a vehicle with a license plate that had expired in September was stopped Nov. 27, charged with driving under suspension and released to the Parma Police Department on a warrant.
A West Bath Road man reported Nov. 29 someone used his identity to open a phone account in February and incurred expenses totaling more than $1,300.
On Nov. 30, police investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the parking lot of a Springside Drive business.
Officers investigated burglary of a Bath Road residence Nov. 30 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
A Yellow Creek Drive woman reported Nov. 30 a man who claimed to be a Florida law enforcement agent convinced her to pay him to prevent being arrested on warrants and used an app to pay $1,000. She stated he asked for more money and she realized it was a scam.
An Ira Road man reported Dec. 1 he has been conversing online with a woman for a year, and she recently sent him a check for more than $87,000 and asked him to deposit it into his bank account and send two checks for $25,000 to an address in Arizona and deposit another $20,000 from his bank account into a Bitcoin account. He later learned that the $87,000 check was returned for insufficient funds and reported the scam to his bank.
A West Bath Road man reported Dec. 1 a man called him claiming to work for the Social Security office and he provided personal information to the caller.
Following an investigation into an incident at a Crystal Lake Road residence Dec. 2, police arrested a man for domestic violence and took him to the Summit County Jail.
A Rolling View Drive man reported Dec. 2 someone used his identity to file a fraudulent application for unemployment compensation.
On Dec. 3, a man who removed merchandise from packaging and pocketed it at a Medina Road store was charged with theft.
COPLEY: Police responding to a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 Nov. 25 found a vehicle had rolled on its side and the driver was stumbling near the vehicle and stated she had blacked out and was unaware how the crash occurred. Two female passengers were standing at the scene and witnesses stated two other women had run across the highway and fled. The driver failed a field sobriety test and her BAC tested .176. The women at the scene stated there had been only three people in the vehicle and denied anyone fled from the scene. Fairlawn dispatchers viewed traffic cameras from the area of the crash and saw two women flee across the road. Police advised the driver, who admitted they had been in the vehicle but did not know their names. The driver was charged with DUI, the passengers were evaluated by EMS and transported to hospitals, the vehicle was towed and police were searching for the passengers who fled.
Officers patrolling Medina Road Nov. 27 found the front gate to a business standing open. They searched the premises and notified emergency contacts for the business, then secured the gate.
The driver of a vehicle with an expired registration was stopped Nov. 30 and questioned about the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A search yielded 13 grams of marijuana and the driver was charged with possession of marijuana.
FAIRLAWN: Employees reported Nov. 23 a shoplifter fled without paying for merchandise in the passenger seat of a vehicle, which police stopped. Police recovered $95 in merchandise and transported the Arizona woman to the store, where she was identified and charged with theft.
A South Balch Street man who failed to scan $57 in items at a West Market Street store Nov. 25 was charged with theft.
Police were called to a mall store Nov. 26 by employees who stated a man concealed $346 in sunglasses and left without paying for them. Officers located him in the men’s room near the food court and found sunglasses in his stall. Following a review of security footage, the Cordova Avenue man was charged with theft and banned from the mall.
Witnesses reported a man and woman were fighting in a vehicle on South Cleveland-Massillon Road Nov. 26. Officers found the vehicle stopped along the road and the two occupants engaged in intimate activity. The Caddo Avenue man was arrested for possession of marijuana and driving without a license and the woman was released. Police confiscated ammunition for an assault rifle and numerous firearms from the vehicle and determined the man was not prohibited from having them and they were returned to him.
A Cortland Avenue man was arrested for theft Nov. 26 after he failed to scan items at a Medina Road store and left without paying for them.
On Dec. 1, employees reported a man took merchandise worth $179 into the restroom of a mall store and concealed them. Police stopped the Goodyear Boulevard man as he exited the store and arrested him for theft.
NORTON: Following a traffic stop Nov. 22, the driver was charged with driving without a license and speeding, the passenger was released to Montville Township Police Department on a warrant and the vehicle was towed.
Police responded to a disturbance at a Milford Street residence Nov. 22, when family members provided conflicting information. Police photographed the victim’s injuries, arrested a woman for domestic violence and took her to the Summit County Jail.
Officers investigated the burglary of a Barber Road business Nov. 22 after the owner reported someone broke into a shed, stripped copper from a heat pump and stole a TV and other items from a houseboat.
Police were called to a South Cleveland-Massillon Road school Nov. 23 by a woman who stated her estranged husband used his vehicle to block hers from exiting the parking lot. Witnesses confirmed the allegation, and police arrested the man for violation of a protection order and took him to jail.
A Medina Line Road man called police Nov. 24 stating his wife, who had moved out, was taking patio furniture. Police advised the parties to contact their attorneys regarding shared property.
On Nov. 26, a couple went to a Helmick Street residence they recently purchased and found the house was filled with gas fumes and several valves and gas appliances had been tampered with to allow fumes to leak into the house. They…
