Urgent warnings as scammers posing as BT workers ‘scoping out people’s homes and quiz homeowners over expensive tech’

LOCALS have warned of scammers who pose as BT workers to ‘scope out their homes’.

Fraudsters have been barging into houses and quizzing residents about their expensive tech belongings, residents claim.

A picture snapped by a worried homeowner in Hackney, East London, shows the two men – both dressed in suits – standing in a neighbour’s front garden.

Along with the snap they wrote: “These are the two ‘BT WIFI’ people scoping out people’s homes.

“One of them basically walked straight into my flat and asked what sort of MacBook I had.

“He then asked to look at my phone.

“If you see either of them, contact police immediately. This was Edmeston Close this morning in E9.”

Meanwhile another woman said they also attempted to ambush her home.

Mum of three, Soraya Aslam said: “They came round about a week ago, I opened the door and they asked if I knew who we had wifi with.

“Then they heard my husband and sons.

“He saw my eldest son – who is nearly six foot – and they buggered off pronto.

“I think they were looking for vulnerable people to rob or steal from because I don’t think they’re from BT – though they had some kind of ID.”

BT advises their customers to contact them immediately if they believe they have been the victim of a scam – and to visit their website for more information.
