Unhappy Christmas tree investors are out on a limb | Ireland

Lorna Morrow, a retired homemaker from Co Meath, first recalls coming across WFS Forestry Ireland on the internet in early 2017. The company was promoting environmentally friendly Christmas tree investments in the UK and Ireland. Morrow says she and her late husband, Derek, contacted the company and over the course of the following 20 months made three separate investments totalling €104,000 in three different forestry projects in England.

The investment scheme was straightforward. Under so-called crop production agreements the Morrows funded the planting of Christmas trees on lands that WFS had leased from local farmers. These trees would then be harvested and sold through WFS’s online retail business, Jingltree.

The projected returns over the five to seven-year investment were handsome.
