Techie Arrested for Rs 20 Crore Fraud Using Her Own Firm’s Loan App

Thrissur, Kerala – In a shocking case of financial fraud, Dhanya Mohan, a senior tech executive from Thrissur, was arrested for allegedly embezzling Rs 20 crores using a personal loan app developed by her own company, Manappuram Comptech & Consultants Ltd (MACOM).

Dhanya, who began her career at MACOM as a manager and later rose to the position of Assistant General Manager and Tech Lead, exploited her access to sensitive data and backend processes of the company’s loan app. She created fake loan accounts and transferred substantial sums of money to her personal bank accounts.

According to the police, Dhanya utilized her in-depth knowledge and access to the loan app’s backend to erase digital footprints and avoid detection. She systematically deleted backend data after transferring funds to prevent any suspicion. The personal loan app, designed to facilitate instant loan disbursement without collateral, provided her the perfect cover for her fraudulent activities.

The fraud came to light on July 23 when an unusual transaction of Rs 80 lakhs was flagged by the head of the application team at MACOM. When confronted, Dhanya left the office citing uneasiness and subsequently went into hiding. The police have gathered crucial evidence, including deleted server records, bank statements, and data from the app, to trace her transactions and rebuild the digital trail.
