The Rapid is adding a new Route 33 bus in the city of Walker to address commuter needs and business and employment growth. The new Route 33 will serve the Walker industrial area along Northridge Drive and Three Mile Road.
The new route went into effect Jan. 2.
Spectrum Charter and other Walker businesses met with The Rapid to discuss transportation as one of their primary employee-retention challenges. The Rapid reviewed employer needs, travel behavior and development patterns in the area. After a thorough analysis, The Rapid determined there was a need for a new route in the Walker industrial area.
“Knowing transportation was a barrier to talent recruitment and retention, we engaged with several employers within the Walker industrial corridor to offer a solution. The Rapid plays a key role in employer and employee connectivity in the six cities we serve,” said Deb Prato, CEO of The Rapid. “The value of transit is access. We provide equity for all six cities’ residents to access employment, education, health care and housing in a sustainable manner. We strive to be the mode of choice.”
The new Walker Industrial Route 33 will start at Greenridge Mall on Weatherford Drive behind the Alpine Target and travel primarily along Three Mile Road and Northridge Drive with 16 bus stops along the route. Prato said the new route was designed as business development continues to expand in Walker. Route 33 will operate every hour between 6-10:30 a.m. and between 2-6:30 p.m.
