Seppa-Chayantajo NEC road project scam | AEKDSU demands suspension of guilty officers, threatens stir

ITANAGAR, Dec 22: The East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) Thursday threatened to call a 36 hours East Kameng bandh, if its demand for suspension of all officers involved in the multi-crore misappropriation in the Seppa-Chayangtajo road project, is not meet within January 23 next.

The union alleged that there was mismanagement of fund which was meant for the construction of 81 km Seppa to Chayangtajo road, under North East Council (NEC) funding.

The union demanded for filing chargesheet against all the officials found to be involved in the misappropriation of Rs 172 crore.

“Special Investigation Cell (SIC) has been endorsed to investigate the malpractice carried out in the road project but there is no progress or outcome till date,” AEKDSU president Chakng Yangda said.

He added that the union had been appealing the state government to expedite the construction of Seppa-Chayangtajo road project at the earliest but other than assurance nothing has been initiated so far, which has compelled the union to resort to democratic movement.

The AEKDSU also demanded immediate floating of tender against Rs 19.92 crore which, was released under Special Assistance from state capital expenditure for construction and improvement of Seppa-Chayangtajo road, immediate termination of erring contractor and initiation of a departmental enquiry.

Earlier, the AEKDSU also lodged a complaint against four persons at SIC including local MLA Hayeng Mangfi, chief engineer PWD western zone Tayor Taloh, executive engineer Gemi Jilen, and assistant engineer Dodum Dada for misappropriation of funds.

Meanwhile, SIC SP Anand Mittal informed that charge sheet has been already filed at court on December 1 last.

Talking to the reporter, the SP said that since the investigation is going on, a supplementary charge sheet would be filed, once the investigation is done.

Stating that since the matter is of 2018, it took time to understand and to interpret the nature of cases, the SP added that the SIC is doing its job by investigating the case in every possible way.
