MORE or less P4.5 million in cash was taken from several people through an alleged “double money” investment scam in Lapu-Lapu City.
The victims sought the help of the office of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, as the culprit introduced himself as a former City Government worker.
The victims said that the “scammer” lured them to invest money in rice and lot selling, among others, and guaranteed they would get double the amount they invested after a month.
“He has several connections. We are not the only victims. There are many of us. He is a genius. There are attorneys, mayors, priests, and other big personnel being victimized,” said one of the victims.
They said the accused consistently paid them for the first three months that they negotiated. The victims stated that the investment money he asked for kept increasing until the alleged scammer never contacted them again.
They added they never doubted the accused considering he also served as a church pianist for roughly 27 years. (HIC)
