Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, he said: “There’s a really easy way to avoid falling for that scam.
“If you get a message from a son, daughter, family member, or whoever. Don’t take that as read.
“Call the number that you have already got for them and say “hi I’ve received a text message from you – are you on a new number?
“If it’s a scam they’ll say “no I haven’t changed my number – I haven’t texted you- and then you’ll know but so many people are getting caught out.”
