In connection with the ongoing vigilance probe against senior Congress leader and the former Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and other forest officials, Punjab Vigilance Bureau sleuths on Thursday landed at the residence of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ashish Kapoor in Mohali in the wee hours.
As per the information available, the VB sleuths took the measurements of the AIG’s residence in Mohali’s Sector 88, built over one kanal plot, related to the ongoing inquiry against him in a disproportionate assets case, filed at the time when he was posted in the Vigilance Bureau.
Earlier, Kapoor was posted as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) in Chandigarh and Superintendent of Jails in Amritsar.
On February 12, the police had filed a chargesheet in the Mohali court against Ashish Kapoor and five others for favouring one of the accused in a case of illegally grabbing forest land at Karoran village in the district.
Kapoor was accused of removing the affidavits filed by the accused along with Punjab and Haryana High Court judgments submitted in the Supreme Court.
A team of vigilance officers reached AIG Kapoor’s residence at 5 am. According to the information received, Vigilance sleuths checked the documents related to his property. The entire proceedings is said to have been videographed.
According to sources, the VB officials also gathered information about the cost of construction of the house, among other things.
In 2019, Kapoor got entangled in another controversy when a woman inmate, lodged in an Amritsar jail, alleged that she was raped by the officer.
