Officer finds no violation on screaming kids; gives them a basketball: Olmsted Falls Police Blotter

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio

Juvenile complaint: Fernwood Drive

A resident called police at 5:29 p.m. March 9 about six kids under the age of 12 screaming and playing on the playground. The caller said they were completely unsupervised. She also said she doesn’t like the noise. She added this was every day. An officer went to the scene and found “just” kids playing on the playground. He saw no cause for a complaint. He gave the kids a basketball.

Found property: Usher Road

A man called police at 11:41 a.m. March 3 and said he found a cell phone at Usher and Sprague roads. He planned to take it to the police station.

Traffic stop: Bagley Road

An officer cited a motorist March 3 at Mapleway Drive for speeding.

Suspicious situation: Sawmill Bend

A resident called police at 7:30 p.m. March 3 about two men in the backyard. When they were confronted, they said they were from AT&T and then left. There was no work done. They left in a blue or black pick-up truck with a trailer. The caller wanted to talk to police about the situation.

Damage property: Tyndall Falls

A resident called police at 8:19 a.m. March 4 that someone cut down a tree in the front yard. She was told this was a city-owned tree lawn and the city was trimming trees. She was also advised to take her displeasure up with the city service director.

Juvenile complaints: Tannery Way

Police received a call at 9:38 p.m. March 4 that three kids were playing ‘ding, dong, ditch’ in the neighborhood. Their most recent direction was unknown. The officer checked Tannery and the surrounding area but saw no one.

Car crash: Springside Lane

A resident called at 6:57 a.m. March 5 and told police she struck a car that was parked on the wrong side of the street across from her driveway. She said she had to leave and would be gone all day, possibly all night. She then said she would report to the station when she returned. She could not provide a description of the car she struck.

Traffic stop: Columbia Road

Police stopped a motorist at 9:12 p.m. March 6 for having an expired driver’s license and plates.

Railroad flashers: Sprague Road

CSX railroad gates were down and lights flashing at 3:35 a.m. March 7. There was no train in sight. Police reported it to the railway company.

Fraud: Wainwright Terrace

A resident went to the police station March 7 to report a phone call. She said the caller was trying to obtain money from her. An officer showed her how to block the number from which the scam originated. The officer recorded the number on his body camera. While the woman was leaving, she received another call from someone saying they were with the Olmsted Falls police department. The officer took over the call. The woman filled out a statement.

Driving under suspension: Cook/Columbia roads

Police stopped a car in which the motorist showed having no license. A company was called to tow the car. The driver was cited for license forfeiture, tint and fictitious plates.

Railroad crossings: Brookside Drive

All the northern Norfolk Southern railroad crossings were blocked at 10:25 a.m. March 8. The railway company was contacted. The train started moving but it stopped again at 10:34. Norfolk Southern said it would be another 30-45 minutes. They were “working some cars.” The crossings were cleared by 12:22 p.m.

Theft: Western Reserve Lane

Someone stole items from a house under construction March 8.

Railroad tracks: Mapleway Drive

All Norfolk Southern Railway crossings were blocked at 4 p.m. March 8. Police advised the railway about the stoppage. It told the city the train was waiting on a crew. The train would hopefully move within the hour. All crossings were cleared at 4:42 p.m.
