ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving the construction of a shelter, a GoFund Me page, a domestic disturbance, a gift card scam and road rage. Here is information from the latest police reports:
Building shelter
- A man was found to be building a shelter Saturday in a wooded area near the 800 block of North Indiana Street. The victim was found to be missing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The victim’s brother was contacted. He told police the man was reported missing when his home went into foreclosure in April. The brother arranged for the man to stay at a local hotel.

- A resident in the 100 block of North York Street told police Friday that a former friend set up a GoFundMe page for her without her permission and commented on her TikTok post. This happened after the former friend was told not to have further contact with the resident. The suspect was told again to have no contact.
Domestic disturbance
- Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Butterfield Road. A person said he got into an argument with another person in the house. Both parties agreed to separate for the evening.

- A resident in the 800 block of South Parkside Avenue told police that a man rang the doorbell and then walked into the backyard before getting back into his car and leaving about 7 a.m. Sunday. The man said he was a handyman and went to the wrong house for a job. That was later confirmed by the resident at the correct address.
Gift card scam
- The son of a resident in the 200 block of North Ridgeland told police Sunday the resident sent money and personal information to a stranger on Facebook. The stranger had the resident buy gift cards and then send photos of the gift cards to the stranger. The resident also bought two airline tickets through Korean Air for the stranger.
Road rage
- A witness told police that a man got out of his car, shattered the driver’s side window of another car and punched the driver about 6 p.m. Sunday at Route 83 and North Avenue. Police found the suspect, who said the other driver rear-ended him in Villa Park and fled. The suspect denied any fight. The other person was not found.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue told police Saturday that someone opened a Verizon account using his information Oct. 30. The victim said he needed to file a police report for a fraud claim with Verizon. No loss was reported.
