Martin Lewis gets fan £4,800 refund after spotting bank account error

A Martin Lewis fan has managed to bag herself a cool £4,800. It comes following a bank account error, which Mr Lewis himself urged the fan to check.

Julie discovered she was mis-sold a package account at her bank. Julie said that she had tried to cancel her packaged bank account in 2010 – but was wrongly told she couldn’t.

“I tried to cancel my account in 2010 but was told ‘it wasn’t possible’ by the bank,” Julie told MoneySavingExpert. “Then reading your article I realised that this just wasn’t true.

“I followed your advice and used the template letter. 18 days later, I got a refund of £4,786.” Packaged accounts are where you pay a monthly fee for your account in return for benefits, most often bundled insurance policies, such as travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and car breakdown.

Lauren told MSE: “I took out a Silver Account with Lloyds when I got my mortgage nine years ago and was told it would need to be maintained to keep my mortgage rate. After a little bit of work, a few emails and phone calls, I got a full refund plus interest – approximately £1,400. Persistence is key as originally they only offered £400!”

Sarah said: “I made a claim for packaged bank account fees refund about 6 weeks ago and didn’t really expect to succeed but…..I got a cheque in the post this morning for £2900.65!!! Am totally amazed and overwhelmed. I did it all through your link to…
