Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said Wednesday that several people within his community had received calls or texts from someone saying that they owe fines that must be paid immediately or you will go to jail.
Brister said it is another scam and that everyone should spread the word not to pay attention or respond to any such calls or be concerned about them.
Brister went on to say that the Kirbyville Police Department does not call people in regards to fines. Brister said anyone receiving such calls, texts or messages should ignore them and under no circumstances give out credit card or bank account numbers.
Brister said a good practice is to call who is supposedly calling you. In other words, if someone says they are calling from the police department, hang up and call the police department, that way you will know who you are talking to.
