Internet users, these are the ‘biggest’ scams you need to be beware of in 2023

McAfee, the computer security company, has shared its cyber security predictions for the coming year.
In the last year, we saw cyber scams evolving, duping people online, and McAfee believes that the trend is unlikely to slow down in the near future. The popularity of cryptocurrency and the metaverse made them easy bait for threat actors, while we also saw people losing money to investment scams and fake loan apps.
The computer security company McAfee predicts these scams to continue but with newer hooks.
Cryptocurrency scams to evolve in 2023
In 2022, we saw several scammers building up on the popularity of personalities to make cryptocurrency scams more believable. One scam this year used an old video of Elon Musk to lure people into giving their money, as the video promised to double the money. McAfee expects the crypto scams to evolve further in 2023, making use of deep fake videos and audio to trick victims into giving their money.
More people could lose their money in investment scams as recession looms
2023 is expected to be a tough year for most people as the recession deepens. This would force people to look for ways to make some extra money, but this can leave them vulnerable to traps such as social media posts and online ads, offering huge financial gains for little investment.
