How to watch the League’s District 2 supervisor candidate forum
The League of Women Voters of the Redding Area on Wednesday evening recorded a candidate forum that voters who will be casting ballots in the Shasta County District 2 recall election can watch on Thursday morning.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and rising case rates, the 90-minute event was closed to the public. In attendance were Supervisor Leonard Moty, who represents the district and is fighting a recall, and Dale Ball and Tim Garman, two of four candidates who are vying to replace him.
Early voting is underway in the Feb. 1 special election.
The nonpartisan group said the recording will be available at 8 a.m. Thursday on the following sites:
The forum will be broadcast on Charter Spectrum channel 181 by SCAC.tv at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily from Thursday to Sunday, Jan. 16.
Moty, a retired Redding police chief, has served on the board since 2008.
Garman is the board president of the Happy Valley Unified School District, while Dale Ball is a construction superintendent who ran unsuccessfully against Moty in 2020.
About the candidates:Dale Ball and Russell Hunt, vying for same supervisor seat, also both have criminal pasts
About the candidates:Anselmo gives $400,000 to recall effort as four candidates file to unseat Supervisor Moty
The other two challengers are Tony Hayward, a Happy Valley businessman, and Tarick Mahmoud, a quality assurance pharmacist.
District 2 voters will be asked on their ballots to answer “yes” or “no” on the question should Moty be recalled.
To keep Moty as the supervisor, voters can vote no on the recall. To recall Moty, voters can vote “yes.”
If more than 50% vote “yes,” then Moty will be recalled.
The ballot also will ask voters who should replace Moty.
Whether voters answered “yes” or “no” on the recall question, they can select one of the four replacement candidates. The candidate with the most votes wins.
