The Franklin Police Department issued a warning about various scams making their way around Middle Tennessee as well as tips to protect identities.
There were three scams the FPD mentioned in a news release that citizens should be aware of.
First, the Metro Nashville Police Department recently issued a warning about a new scam circulating in the Davidson County area. According to the MNPD fraud and sex crimes detectives, scammers are spoofing a legitimate MNPD phone number and impersonating a police officer. The perpetrators call potential victims and tell them they will be placed on the sex offender registry unless they pay money. MNPD said it will never call to solicit money for any reason.
The same scam has also been circling around Franklin, according to the FPD. Scammers spoof a legitimate agency phone number that shows on the victim’s caller ID. The scammers then proceed to impersonate law enforcement and say that a warrant for the arrest of the victim has been issued, but the victim can avoid arrest by paying fines over the phone. Legitimate police officers will never demand money or payment, according to the FPD.
The Davidson County Register of Deeds also recently issued a warning after homeowners in Davidson County reported receiving a fraudulent letter from a bogus “Clerks Property Office,” directing people to mail money…
