I was offended by the letter writer who suggested I and other Canadians are settlers because we are not Indigenous. My family, and the families of millions of other Canadians, have been here for multiple generations. It is these families who have made Canada the great country it is today. We are Canadians, not settlers.
Those accusing us of being settlers are applying the morality of today to events of 200 years ago. Indigenous people of 200 years ago were more than happy to accept guns from Europeans and use them to take over the land of other Indigenous people. Those who apologize for being Canadian need to learn some history.
