The latest development comes after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged money-laundering case emanating from the redevelopment project of the Patra Chawl, Goregaon, by Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the HDIL.
The ED has said that Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) owns the 47 acres of land at the Patra Chawl and 672 tenants were living in the tenement on the plot. As per the probe agency, the Guru Ashish Constructions got the permission for the plot redevelopment, but no actual redevelopment took place till date. The tenants suffered due to this, the probe agency has maintained.

The ED had raided Raut’s residence in Bhandup on July 31 and arrested him in the wee hours of August 1.
A Special PMLA Court on August 2 sent Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut to a 14-day judicial custody till August 22.
The probe agency also interrogated Raut’s wife, Varsha Raut for around 10 hours in connection with the same case.

In April 2022, properties belonging to Varsha and Pravee and two others, worth around Rs 11.15 crore were attached by the central probe agency part of its probe.
They attached properties included, plots in Palghar and Raigad, and a flat belonging to Sanjay Raut’s wife in Mumbai, and properties she held jointly with another associate, Swapna Patkar.
Sanjay Raut has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he is being targeted by the BJP due to political vendetta.
