Chatham-Kent police have issued a warning about a scam involving Toronto moving companies after receiving two local complaints.

Police received reports of “moving scams” on May 13 and June 24 that involves individuals entering into a contract with a Toronto-based moving company based that includes the cost of the move.
After the move had begun, the victims were allegedly contacted by the company, which advised them more money would need to be paid to complete the move or their belongings would not be delivered.
Police said local officers learned these two incidents were related to other ongoing investigations by the Toronto Police Service. Chatham-Kent’s investigating officer is collaborating with Toronto police to aid in their investigative efforts, police said.
Chatham-Kent police cautioned the public that these suspect moving companies appear professional and normal, boasting reasonable rates and often offering weeks of free storage.
