Branford Aldi supermarket set to open on June 23 near I-95

BRANFORD — Nearly a year after site work started, ALDI supermarket is opening its Branford store at 8:30 a.m., June 23. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to a news release.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for five years running,” Chris Daniels, South Windsor regional vice president for ALDI said in a news release. “We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in Branford and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”


The first 100 customers will receive a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 ALDI gift card, according to the release.

Aldi is a German-owned cousin of Trader Joe’s known for its low prices, high-quality store brands, no-frills style and growing selection of natural and organic foods. Its U.S. base is in Chicago.

“With its aggressive nationwide growth in recent years, ALDI is on track to open 150 new stores and become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of this year,” the release said.

The ALDI business model is intentionally different and the result is a fast and affordable shopping experience, the release said.

ALDI has also been No. 1 for price according to the Dunnhumby Retailer Preference Index Report for five years running, according to the release.
