Better Business Bureau warns of potential Mother’s Day scams

Some of you may still be out there looking out for a perfect Mother’s Day gift, but the Better Business Bureau is warning about potential scams.

This comes as a National Retail Federation survey shows that families plan to spend more this year than they have in the past.

The hot items for this year are flowers, jewelry and special outings, with 84% planning to celebrate.

Now as for things to look out for:

  • While shopping online, the BBB says to avoid suspicious websites and pop-up ads and to pay with a credit card or PayPal
  • If you’re buying flowers, they say it’s important to choose a florist you can trust with your order
  • Be cautious of buying or selling jewelry online, as well as gift cards or certificates that may have been tampered with

If you think you’ve come across a scam, you can report it at BBB.org/scamtracker.
