There have been lots of scams over the years involving roof replacement or sealing driveways, as noted by the local Better Business Bureau. In fact, a large number of residents throughout Rutherford County have reported strangers visiting their home suggesting they needed a new roof, especially after a storm hits the area. Other residents have reported random workers showing up in beat-up / old trucks, telling homeowners they had enough left-over material from a previous job to re-seal their driveway for a fraction of the cost that most could. James Price of the BBB in Rutherford County stated… As always, make sure the people you hire to make repairs or additions to your home are with a real business and are not a scam artist.
Michelle Boykin with Rackley Roofing told WGNS that homeowners don’t need to be timid in asking questions… Boykin noted that worker safety is important for multiple reasons. If a non-established company that sub-contracts work being done on your home lacks insurance, the cost of repairing damage they cause could fall on the homeowner.
In addition to incorrect work being done – – if a roofer lacks insurance and a worker falls off your roof, you could be sued and possibly forced to pay for their injuries. Always ask about a company’s proof of insurance and their safety plan… You don’t want to be the safety net for the company you hire.
To protect yourself from scams, Boykin reminds everyone to learn more about a business before you hire them. Furthermore, don’t pay for 100% of the job before they begin construction…
