Audit finds college principal involved in Rs110m scam – Newspaper

BAHAWALPUR: A special audit report of the higher education department (HED) for the year 2019-20 unearthed misappropriation of Rs110m funds of the Government Sadiq Egerton (SE) College allegedly by a former principal in connivance with a clerk.

The audit report was completed on July 23, 2020 by the committee convener HED Deputy Secretary Muhammad Anees.

Dawn learnt that a special team, headed by Mr Muhammad Anees, carried out the special audit on the application of a complainant who had levelled allegations againt the principal.

According to the copy of the audit report (available with Dawn), the embezzled funds were under different heads.

When contacted, Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Bahawalpur circle officer Abdul Qayyum said that for further action on the basis of the report, he had asked the college officials to hand over the relevant records to him.

He said he was still awaiting the record from the college authorities to probe the case further.

DIES: A minor girl who was burnt in a boiler blast the other day succumbed to her burns at the Nishtar Hospital Multan on Monday.

Riffat (10) was among the seven persons, including three labourers, who had suffered serious burns in the fire at a tar boiler on the under–construction Uch Sharif Road.

Three motorcycle riders, including Riffat’s father, Qari Yaqoob, and brother, Muhammad Hussain, were also burnt in the incident.

Yaqoob and Hussain are still under–treatment at the burn unit of the Nishtar Hospital.

ARRESTED: Lodhran District Police Officer Muhammad Kashif Aslam claimed that during a 10-day campaign, 277 drug pushers were arrested and 63kg heroin was seized from them besides toxic liquor and other narcotics.

District Police Officer office Public Relations Officer Aamir Nazir said 33 anti-social elements involved in several offences were arrested in the district during the last three days.
