Amherst Co. deputies warn of Facebook puppy scam

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — An investigation is underway in Amherst County following reports of a social media scam involving puppies.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office says the scam circulating on Facebook involves selling and rehoming puppies.

Authorities ask you not to buy puppies over Facebook using a credit card, adding that once the scammer gets your credit card information, they block you.

If you have been a victim of this crime, the sheriff’s office urges you to call 434-946-9300.

This news comes as animal shelters across the country and across the Commonwealth — including Angels of Assisi and the Lynchburg Humane Society — prepare to find homes for the 4,000 beagles rescued from the Envigo breeding facility in Cumberland County.
