Regional District of Nanaimo warns public of handyDart phone scam

Residents advised to contact RDN

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) received notice from a resident who was called by an individual posing as a regional district handyDART representative.

The caller proceeded to ask the client for money related to handyDART services.

The RDN wants to inform the public that it does not contact clients for payment. The client followed the recommended course of action, which is to hang up and call the RDN directly.

Residents are advised not to provide credit card or other personal information unless they have initiated a call to the RDN. Residents may also report suspicious calls to the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre line at 1-888-495-8501.

The public can contact the RDN with questions about services or other matters at 250-390-4111, toll-free at 1-877-607-4111, inquiries@rdn.bc.ca or RDN Transit at 250-390-4531, the regional transit system (Parksville/Qualicum Beach area) at 250-954-1001 or transit@rdn.bc.ca.
