Deputies ask public’s help in connection with suspected ‘gold ring’ scam in Batavia | Top Story

BATAVIA — If you bought jewelry from a man in the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office would like you to contact them.

Deputies responded to the parking lot on June 3 after a complaint of a man asking people for money in exchange for a gold ring.

The man and a passenger in his vehicle were identified by deputies and it’s believed they were conducting a known scam.

Anybody who bought jewelry from the man in the area including the Walmart parking lot, the Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot, and at Batavia Downs Gaming & Casino is asked to call Investigator Ryan DeLong at (585) 345-3000 ext. 3572 or Investigator Erik Andre at (585) 345-3000 ext. 3574.
