$22,000 Fake Boss Scam; Home Burglar Escapes In Stolen Car: Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


INCIDENTS

FAKE JEWELRY
Staff at Wilmette Loan and Jewelry, 1409 Lake Ave., reported that they spent $1,700 to buy a fake gold neckless on Dec. 29.

EMAIL SCAM
A Central Avenue resident reported on Dec. 30 that they were scammed out of $22,000 by someone who sent an email claiming to be their boss. The scammer asked the resident to provide the numbers to the fake boss for holiday gifts.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package from the front porch of a home in the 200 block of Wood Court around 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 2. The package contained about $190 worth of curtains.

TICKET SCAM
A Park Avenue resident reported on Jan. 3 that they agreed to sell tickets to the national championship of college football and, before receiving payment, mailed the tickets out-of-state to someone who stopped responding.
