🌱 Streaming Service Scam Warning + Avian Flu Kills Vultures

First, today’s weather:

Here are the top three stories today in Charleston:

  1. Charleston residents are being warned of a new scam targeting streaming service users. A Goose Creek woman was the target of a scam while trying to set up HBO Max on a new TV. The helpline the woman used was fraudulent and resulted in credit card information theft. Charleston residents must be cautious when dialing numbers found on the internet. (WCBD News 2)
  2. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has confirmed that some dead vultures located in a West Ashley neighborhood died from the avian flu. The vultures were located near two retention ponds and nothing can reportedly be done to remove them. Removing the birds could potentially spread the avian flu in the community. It is unclear what the next steps will be. (WCBD News 2)
  3. Charleston’s International African American Museum will reportedly open to the public in January 2023. The museum first broke ground in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
