Here are the top five stories today in Denver:
- Most of the Denver City Council walks out during public comment hearing over homeless camping ban. Homeless advocates refused to give up the podium on Monday night as they spoke on the 10 year anniversary of Denver’s Camping Ban. Only one council member stuck around to hear all the testimony β which caused an hour long delay. (FOX31)
- Those happy green summer lawns are likely to fade fast. Did you know that 60 percent of Denver’s summer water use is devoted to outdoor uses? Turns out, that means mostly watering grass. With long-term droughts becoming the new normal in Colorado, the call for change is growing louder. (CBS4)
- On the bright side of things: It’s not all doom and gloom for Denver restaurants after the pandemic. The former Owlbear restaurant will be reopening as Pit Fiend. After buying the smokers and doing a series of pop-up bbq events, former employees of Owlbear have teami up to reopen the RiNO location. (Westword)
- Controversial Green Valley Ranch HOA has more than a million in the bank. The Denver HOA has taken in more than $600,000 in one year from fines levied against its homeowners, and has more than $2.2 million in assets. (CBS4)
- Rosemary’s Cafe closing its doors after a 23 year run. The restaurant on South Sheridan has been sold, and as of May 15, the keys will be passed to a new owner, but it’s unclear what, if anything will come of the restaurant space. (Denverite)
