(Willmar MN-) Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt says the end of the year and the holidays are a prime time for phone scammers…

…People also may say they are from the IRS or Social Security or even the police, issuing various threats or seeking financial info. Felt says if you get one of those calls, tell them you will call them back, but not on the number they supply or the number they called you on. Look up the number of your bank or organization and ask them if there is a problem. And Felt says if a caller every asks for payment via gift card of any kind, it is a guaranteed scam…

…Felt says scammers can make your caller ID show that the call is coming from your bank or the IRS etc. to make you think it is legitimate.
