PQB crime report: Phone scam costs resident $20,000

Oceanside RCMP received 235 complaints the week of Jan. 8 to Jan. 14.

Some of the incidents included:

Jan. 8

A business compound break-and-enter was reported in the 600 block of Island Highway East, Parksville. A single subject was seen on video attempting to steal fuel from a vehicle.

Insurance papers were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 1100 block of Resort Drive, Parksville.

A garage door opener was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue East, Qualicum Beach.

Jan. 9

Christmas lights were reported vandalized twice in the 700 block of Norwood Place, Qualicum Beach.

Jan. 10

A business compound break-and-enter was reported in the 600 block of Island Highway East, Parksville. A female subject was apprehended nearby with stolen goods and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

A resident was reported scammed of $1,850 in an online puppy seller scam.

Jan. 11

A large sum of money and a trailer hitch were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2800 block of Whistler road, Qualicum Beach.

A resident reported losing $550 when a bank card was accidentally left behind in an ATM and was then used by an unauthorized person.

A resident reported losing $20,000 in a phone scam purported to be from a courier company requiring a payment.

A prowler was reported in the 200 block of Evergreen Street, Parksville.
