Customers of Bendigo Bank have been warned to stay on the lookout for scammers who are posing as the bank’s fraud team.
Bendigo said it was aware of scammers calling or texting customers and telling them they had been exposed to fraud or that their internet banking had been hacked.
“In reports, scammers are requesting personal information such as your 6-digit security code, pin or password. If you are asked for this information, please hang up immediately as this is a scam,” Bendigo said in a statement.
“In some reports, scammers are asking you to transfer money into another bank account. This is to trick you into giving away your personal information or money.”
Bendigo reminded customers it would never request personal information, such as your pin, password, or six-digit banking security code, or ask you through an email or text to login to online services.
“Bendigo Bank will never ask you to click on a link in an SMS text message, to login to e-banking or request remote access to your PC or device,” the bank said.
“We will never ask you to download an app or software onto your device. If in doubt, hang up and call us directly via the phone number on our website.”
Bendigo said customers should be especially cautious if they received a message encouraging them to take urgent action.
