ITANAGAR, Dec 22: The All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) has threatened to call 36 hours East Kameng district bandh if the state government fails to fulfill its charter of demands related to the infamous multi-crore misappropriation in the Seppa – Chayangtajo NEC road project.
Hundreds of members from All East Kameng District Students Union and its branch organization along with members of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union and All Nyishi Students’ Union participated in the rally from Akhasdeep Complex to Tennis Court, IG Park. The rally has been organized by the AEKDSU to show its protest against the state government for its lackadaisical attitude toward the infamous alleged Seppa to Chayangtajo road scam.
Speaking to reporters, President AEKDSU Chakang Yangda alleged that there is huge mismanagement of funds meant for the construction of the 81km Seppa- Chayangtajo NEC road project. He said a chargesheet should be filed against all the officials found to be involved in the misappropriation of Rs. 172 crores scam.
He further said that the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) has been endorsed to investigate the malpractice on the said project but there is no progress or outcome till date.
“AEKDSU has been appealing to the state government to expedite the construction of the Seppa-Chayangtajo road project at the earliest. Rather the state government is only issuing verbal assurance neglecting practical action so far. This is the reason why the union is compelled to resort to the democratic movement,” he added.
Yangda also said that other demands of the union included immediate floating of tender against Rs. 19.92 crores which were released under Special Assistance from state capital expenditure for construction and improvement of the Seppa – Chayangtajo road, termination of erring contractor and initiation of departmental inquiry. He also claimed that out of Rs 19.92 crore, atleast Rs. 3.41 Crore has been misused by the authority.
Earlier the AEKDSU also lodged a complaint against four persons with the SIC including local MLA Hayeng Mangfi, chief engineer PWD western zone Tayor Taloh, Executive Engineer Gemi Jilen, and Assistant Engineer Dodum Dada for misappropriation of funds.
