Chris Pettit indicted over alleged thefts from his ex-clients

Pettit remains locked up after being indicted Wednesday by a San Antonio federal grand jury on charges related to allegations that he stole millions of dollars from his former clients.

Though a bankruptcy judge had ordered Pettit’s release from jail Wednesday
after finding he had cleared himself of a contempt of court charge, he was never set free.

An arrest warrant and the indictment were probably delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service while Pettit, 55, was still in custody.
He has been jailed
at the Karnes County Detention Facility for three months.

Justice Department representatives, including Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Almonte, attended Wednesday’s bankruptcy court hearing. They were likely there to see if the judge would release Pettit and, if so, move to keep him in custody.
