The fake page copies the branding of MOGO Kenya.
A Facebook page claiming to belong to MOGO Kenya and offering services on behalf of the asset financing company is FAKE.
The page invites users experiencing financial difficulties to submit a logbook loan application via a provided WhatsApp number.
The other requirement on top of the logbook is personal information, including six months of money transfer services or bank statements, a copy of ID, a Kenya Revenue Authority pin, and a driver’s licence.
Clicking on the WhatsApp number provides further information on the requirements to get the logbook loan.
However, the WhatsApp number provided on the page is not the official telephone contact of MOGO Kenya. This post, shared on the company’s legitimate Facebook page on 19 October 2022, has a different telephone contact.
The company also warns of impersonating social media pages and asks users only to engage its official pages and contacts.
Gavin Wanjala, the Marketing manager at MOGO Auto LTD, said in an email to PesaCheck, that the company is “aware of social media pages impersonating it”.
The username of the legitimate page of MOGO Auto Limited is “MOGO Kenya”, with over 32,000 likes and it contains links to its website, contact number, and Wanjala’s email.
