Hazards of buying electric scooters online

Ola Electric scooter online scam unearthed.

Only recently twenty people were arrested by the police from three states for allegedly duping more than 1,000 people in the garb of selling Ola electric scooters online. The matter throws light on the hazards and risks related to buying electric scooters online.
Reports suggest that an entire gang was running a fake Ola Electric scooter website through which it used to target potential customers into making them pay for bookings and other purchase formalities. The victims were initially asked to make an online payment of Rs 499 towards registration and were later told to transfer money for transportation and vehicle insurance among others. Afterward, the victims were told that would be a delay in the delivery of the electric scooters and fool them.

The police have arrested a number of people from different parts of the country. Of the accused, 11 were from Bihar, four were from Telangana, three were from Jharkhand, and two were from Karnataka, they said.

The fraud was uncovered based on the complaint by a victim who alleged having lost Rs 30,998 to the fraud. Following this, the police managed to trace one of the suspects to Bengaluru. Based on the interrogation of the suspect, the police got a hold of the entire gang, and also recovered, seven laptops, 38 smartphones, 25 basic phones, two hard discs, two smartwatches, and 114 sim cards.
