PNB Loan Scam Nirav Modi Losses Appeal In UK Court

The London High Court ruled out diamond merchant Nirav Modi’s, 51, extradition to India to face charges of money laundering and fraud of an estimated sum of $2 billion in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan scam case.

The bench headed by Justice Jeremy Stuart-Smith and Justice Robert Jay ordered the verdict.

Modi is under bars at Wandsworth prison in south-east London.

He has been granted permission to appeal against District Judge Sam Goozee’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court decision in favour of extradition in Feb under the provisions of Article 3 of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) to hear arguments if it is unjust and oppressive and under the Section 91 of the Extradition Act 2003 to extradite Modi due to his ill mental state.

Modi has been charged with the CBI related to a fraud case through PNB loan agreements, and with the ED in the laundering case with that fraud. He has also been charged with the disappearance of pieces of evidence and criminal intimidation to cause death to the witnesses.
