A Wellsboro man faces several charges in Summit Hill after allegedly bilking a homeowner out of nearly $17,000.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Trent Alan Aughenbaugh of 59 Pearl St., Wellsboro, who has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and deceptive business practices.
The charges were filed at the office of District Justice Casimir T. Kosciolek in Lansford. Police said they haven’t located Aughenbaugh.
Police said that on Aug. 1, officer Brian Horos received a report about a theft from a Summit Hill woman who lives on West White Street in the borough.
She reported home damage and contacted TPA Family Inc., owned by Aughenbaugh, to perform the repairs. On Jan. 14, she paid Aughenbaugh $16,959.39 by check. The check was cashed on Jan. 18.
To date, the repairs have not been started, the woman said.
Multiple attempts to contact Aughenbaugh by the woman, her insurance company and police have not been successful, police said.
The investigating officer is Horos.
Horos said in his affidavit that Aughenbaugh told the woman he needed the check by Jan. 15 “to do the job and to lock the price in.” Aughenbauch came to the woman’s home, where she gave him the check.
