The Federal Student Loan Debt Relief application is now open and will run through December 31, 2023. This program provides eligible borrows with full or partial discharge of loans up to $20,000 to Federal Pell Grant recipients and up to $10,000 to non-Pell Grant recipients.

In order to qualify, individuals must have made less than $125,000 in 2021 or 2020, or families who made less than $250,000 in 2021 or 2020. If you filed federal taxes, your income requirements are based on your adjusted gross income (AGI), which tends to be lower than your total income. Your AGI can be found on line 11 of the IRS Form 1040.

After filling out the application, the following email is sent:

1. We’ll process your application

We’ll review your application, determine your eligibility for debt relief, and work with your loan servicer to process your relief. Unless you hear back from the U.S. Department of Education or your loan servicer, you don’t have to take any other action.

2. We’ll contact you if we need additional information

We may need additional information from you to process your application. If we do, we’ll contact you by email with additional instructions. The following are examples of situations where we’ll follow up with you:
