The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of an incident in which a scammer called someone and told them there were warrants out for their arrest.
“When the reporter said she wasn’t the person with the warrant, the scammer hung up and called a second time and verbally harassed the reporter,” a sheriff’s office report states. “Never give personal or financial information to anyone over the phone. If you don’t know a telephone number that’s calling, don’t answer it, with so many phone scams circulating. If it’s important they’ll leave a voicemail. Never provide your Social Security number, DOB or credit card information over the phone unless you are certain you know who it is going to.”
