The raids were done by the BJP-led Centre to exert pressure on RJD leaders to join their party, says RJD MLC
Ahead of new mahagathbandhan government to prove its majority on the floor of the state assembly on Wednesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday conducted raid at residences of several Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders, said to be close to the family of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. The CBI conducted raid at RJD leader’s residences in land-for-job scam case.
In July party leader Bhola Yadav who has been close aide of Mr Prasad for several years, too was arrested and sent to jail in the case. CBI had, earlier, conducted raid in the case at party leader Rabri Devi’s official residence 10, Circular road as well.
The CBI on Wednesday morning conducted raid at residences of party leaders: former MLC Subodh Rai, party Rajya Sabha MP Ashfaque Karim, party MLC Sunil Singh and party leader Faiyaz Ahmad. The raid is going on places of four RJD leaders. Later, it was learnt that the investigating agency has also searched residence and business premises of two other RJD leader Syed Abu Dojana and Subhas Yadav. It was also said that raids are being conducted at an under construction mall in Gurugram allegedly owned by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. However, later, Mr Yadav strongly refuted that it was owned by him.
“The raid had been done internationally by the BJP-led central government. I’ll file defamation suit against CBI. They (BJP-led central government) have been doing it to exert pressure on RJD leaders to join their party”, alleged RJD MLC and party treasurer Sunil Singh. A large number of supporters of Mr. Singh had gathered outside his residence in Patna shouting slogan against CBI and BJP-led central government.
The JD-U leaders too condemned CBI raid at RJD leader’s residence. “This is like show of strength by BJP government at the centre ahead of new mahagathbandhan government to prove majority in the House today. But people have been watching all this”, said JD-U leader and party spokesperson Niraj Kumar.
However, reacting over the CBI raid, state BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal told media persons that “chief minister Nitish Kumar himself had demanded probe into the case and investigation is going on”. “The JD-U leaders had provided papers to investigating agencies on corruption charges against RJD leaders. In 2017 chief minister Nitish Kumar had even sought explanation from Tejashwi Yadav and when the law is taking its own course, there should not be politics on it”, said senior state BJP leader and party Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi. “What you sow is what you reap”, quipped state BJP MLA Nitin Nabin.
