Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. School resource officer (SRO) is a contentious position these days in many districts, Beaverton School District included. A recent survey sponsored by the City of Beaverton and BSD discovered the general thoughts of staff, students and parents on the matter. Based on over 8,700 responses, the survey determined that less than half of students support SROs in schools, with under 20% actively opposing SROs. Despite the findings, BSD reps say they’re going to keep SROs in schools, at least for the start of the next school year. (KGW.com)
  2. The monkeypox outbreak has been making many folks nervous lately, but that anxiety is causing a Tualatin man extra inconvenience. Jose Torres suffers from neurofibromatosis (NF-1), which causes small benign tumors that some mistake for symptoms of the monkeypox virus.
