Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Wednesday approved appointment of justice Jai Narayan Patel for conducting inquiry into the Rs150 crore scam at Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank (NDCCB) where the former animal husbandry, dairy development, sports and youth welfare minister Sunil Kedar is made prime accused.
A letter on this regard was submitted by the Maharashtra Cooperation Department before the division bench comprising justices Sunil Shukre and Govinda Sanap. It was filed in a civil application (No 465/2021) filed by petitioner Omprakash Kamdi praying for expediting the trials of the case that was lingering for over two decades since 2002.
He had also demanded fixing responsibility of the massive losses caused to the banks, particularly by its directors, and recovery of dues from them under Section 88 of the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, 1960.
According to additional government pleader Mehroz Pathan, justice Patel would replace former principal district and sessions in the city Subhash Mohod. The Cooperation Department informed that Mohod was suffering from the heart related ailments and would not be able to complete the inquiry before the extended deadline of November 6 this year.
