Melbourne victims lose thousands of dollars in credit card skimming scam at ATMs

Melbourne victims have lost thousands of dollars in a common credit card scam but they still have no idea where or how they were compromised.

On Tuesday, Victoria Police released photos of a man they wish to speak to after people had nearly $9000 in cash stolen from skimmed credit cards.

The man went to 12 ATMs across Melbourne and used details from the cards that had been skimmed previously to withdraw other people’s money.

The victims’ credit cards are believed to have been compromised between December and March.

But the victims still have no idea how or when it happened.

The money was withdrawn at ATMs in Toorak, South Yarra, Box Hill, Richmond, Springvale, Fairfield and in Melbourne’s CBD.

The man police wish to speak to over the incident has been described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 30s and of a solid build.

Usually when he is captured on CCTV he is seen wearing a black New York Yankees baseball cap, blue surgical mask, black hoodie with white writing across his check and adidas joggers.

Police are urging any other victims to come forward and anyone with information to contact them.
