Comanche Police Department (CPD) recently warned citizens of technology scams circulating in the area.
According to CPD, locals have reported suspicious phone calls that seem to be from Apple Tech about suspected illegal activity on the individual’s phone.
“They give you personal information about you and your finances that people shouldn’t know,” CPD stated.
CPD said the alleged scammers use these personal details to convince the individual to surrender credit card or banking information.
“Do not give out any personal or financial information over the phone to anyone,” CPD said.
CPD also warned of a Facebook Marketplace scam reported by locals.
According to CPD, scammers on Facebook Marketplace will ask interested buyers to deposit payment directly into the scammer’s bank account or purchase gift cards in exchange for items.
“If they ask you for a holding fee or deposit or ask you to transfer money in any way, it is probably a scam,” CPD stated.
CPD encouraged Facebook Marketplace users to utilize public e-commerce exchange zones, such as the one in the Comanche Police Department parking lot, as they are under 24 hour video surveillance.
“Physically look at the item you wish to purchase, then exchange cash for what they are selling you,” CPD advised.
