“And they would have a new Ford Bronco sitting in front of the Bigway and there was $250,000 too and so on and so forth,” added Wilson.
The household Wilson lives in is for elderly people and he knows that demographic is often the target of such scams.
“Heads up for the elderly, you know it sounds too good to be true and all it does is get my brother-in-law’s heart-ripping along here.”
Wilson states he found the call very suspicious and too good to be true when he was told about it, so he took some steps to verify what the person was saying.
On social media, STARS says they do not ask people for money to claim a prize and asks those who receive calls to document as many details as possible, such as the phone number and names so they can be given to the police.
