Toronto Police say a man allegedly hired a moving company online and was told it would cost between $600-$800 and when the workers arrived he had to give a $400 deposit and another $400 halfway through the loading.

Once the truck was loaded, it’s alleged the supervisor told the man the final bill was $3,200 and refused to unload his property until a payment was made.

A suspect was arrested in the area of at Cosburn and Pape Aves.

Dashen Smith, of Toronto, is charged with false pretence under $5000, fraud under $5000, mischief interfere with property under $5000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

He’s been released on bail with conditions.

Investigators are concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims.

Smith’s arrest comes days after three other arrests were made in a separate moving scam that allegedly fleeced hundreds of people across Canada and led to the recovery of 10 tractor-trailers full of goods.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
