Why it’s not so easy to move your pensions into one place | Money

Rob Dyke has tried to stay on top of his pensions. Every time he has left a job he has moved the workplace pension into his main pot, which he manages through the consolidator PensionBee.

This is normally simple — his previous two transfers took between six and eight weeks. But for the past four months, Dyke, 43, has been in a battle with XPS Pensions to get £30,000 of his savings moved to the right place.

The average pension transfer took 8.8 days in the 2019-2020 financial year, according to the pension transfer company Origo, but it took 11.7 days in 2020-2021 and 13.5 days last year.

Origo’s index does not track all pension transfers, but includes about 80 per cent of the transfers
